India middle-order batsman Veda Krishnamurthy has been dropped from both limited-overs squads for the New Zealand tour in January 2019, following a long run that yielded below-par scores since a reasonably impressive South Africa tour in February. Batsman Mona Meshram has replaced her in the ODI squad, while quick-bowling allrounder Shikha Pandey has returned to the T20I squad after being left out for the World T20 last month.Priya Punia, the 22-year-old Delhi opener, meanwhile, has earned her maiden India call-up, for the T20I squad, on the back of two centuries in the ongoing Senior Women’s One-Day League domestic tournament.Krishnamurthy had five single-digit scores during the World T20, including two unbeaten innings, and despite an 80-run knock for Railways in the One-Day League, her lack of consistency has resulted in exclusion from both sides. That was the only change from the ODI squad that played against Sri Lanka women in September.Pandey returned to the T20I set-up as a like-for-like replacement for Pooja Vastrakar who underwent an ACL surgery last week following a knee injury she sustained during a warm-up game ahead of the World T20. It has been an intriguing season for Arsenal so far this year. They might not be blowing teams away like they did at the start of the last campaign, and yet, with three weeks to go until Christmas, the men in red and white once again find themselves atop the Premier League tree.

What makes their strong performances all the more impressive, however, is that they have topped the league – and their Champions League group – without a prolific striker in the team. As talented as Gabriel Jesus is, he is not a top-class finisher – something he has admitted.

So, with news that the club are now targeting Victor Osimhen in 2024, Bukayo Saka could see his already impressive assist numbers skyrocket.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are one of the latest sides to show a genuine interest in signing Napoli and Nigeria star Victor Osimhen in 2024.

The report has revealed that Mikel and Edu Gasper hope to make an audacious bid for the lethal frontman in the summer window.

However, London rivals Chelsea are also said to be interested, and should both sides go in for him this winter, it would likely take an offer in the region of £120m to lure him away from Naples.

That said, the prospect of seeing the former Lille man link up with Saka this season surely justifies any price that the Serie A champions demand.

Victor Osimhen could take Saka to the next level

As we have already mentioned, the Gunners have been churning out wins as of late, not necessarily at their free-flowing best per se, but undoubtedly effective.

And while Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trosaard and even Saka have all chipped in, they have yet to show a natural cutting edge when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net, which is where Osimhen comes in.

The "brilliant" number nine, as described by former Tottenham number one Paul Robinson, finds himself in the top 2% of players in Europe's top five leagues for total shots and touches in the opposition penalty area per 90, and the top 9% for non-penalty goals, per FBref.

However, how does he stack up with the Gunners' attacking players? Well, unsurprisingly, last season's Serie A top scorer is a step above the Emirates' best finishers.

The Nigerian superstar has an expected goals figure of more than double that of Jesus, and yet he has scored six times as many goals. The only players Mikel Arteta has at his disposal that even come close to his output this season are Eddie Nketiah and Trossard, but their numbers are somewhat deceiving.

Nketiah, for example, put in a brilliant performance against Sheffield United in October and scored a hat-trick, but he has since flattered to deceive and has missed some sitters along the way.

If Saka can rack up five Premier League assists with a front line that struggles to finish their chances, we can only imagine what he would be able to do with a "goal-scoring machine" like Osimhen up front, as he was described by journalist Josh Bunting.

Only last term did the frontman score 31 goals in 39 games. Promising indeed should Arsenal sign him next year.

Rangers are believed to be one of numerous clubs in the mix to sign an experienced defender who has starred at a high level in both club and international football, according to a fresh transfer update.

The Gers have suffered an unpredictable season to date, starting with a disappointing spell under Michael Beale, who was eventually dismissed after a string of below-par performances and results. Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox in the Englishman's place, and while the positives have outweighed the negatives with him so far, improvements are still required, as highlighted by the 1-1 draws against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and Aris on Thursday evening.

Some new signings in January will clearly help in that respect, aiding Rangers' title push up against Celtic in the process, and they have been linked with numerous players in recent weeks. Ben Godfrey and Lennon Miller are two players who have been backed to move to Ibrox, with the pair currently representing Everton and Motherwell respectively, and former Sunderland youngster Mason Cotcher is another who could head there.

While Rangers' finances are likely to determine how much business can be done next month, it would be a surprise, and a disappointment, if no new faces came in to boost the options at Clement's disposal in the second half of the season.

Rangers offered chance to sign Hegazi

According to a fresh transfer update from TEAMtalk, Rangers have been given the opportunity to sign Ahmed Hegazi in January, although that also applies to a number of other clubs.

"Hegazi could be allowed to leave on a free transfer, and a number of clubs in the UK are keeping a close eye on the situation. TEAMtalk understands that Burnley, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Cardiff are amongst those looking at the situation.

"Both Rangers and Celtic have also been offered the chance to the sign the Egyptian international. The centre-back’s current contract at Al Ittihad runs until 2026 but he has been left out of their Saudi Pro League squad and can’t feature for the side before the end of the year."

Hegazi could be an intriguing signing by Rangers in January, with the 32-year-old not necessarily representing the future, but someone with huge experience who could make a difference at the back for Clement.

The Gers transfer target has won an impressive 82 caps for Egypt, including starring at the 2018 World Cup alongside Mohamed Salah. In the Premier League, he has appeared 68 times during his spell with West Brom, while former Tottenham midfielder and ex-Baggies teammate Nacer Chadli heaped praise on Hegazi, saying:

"Ahmed is a great player. He is very strong in the air, and he has good skills. He is intelligent and can be very dangerous and can score goals."

Bringing in a player who has performed at a high level for such a long time could be shrewd business by Rangers, and the fact that he can't play for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad for the remainder of the year could only heighten the chance of him moving to Ibrox.

There is clearly plenty of potential interest in him, however, and a return to English football could appeal, but Clement would be wise to chance his arm and bring in the Egyptian veteran.

The Report by George Dobell23-Nov-2018Jonny Bairstow put England – and his own Test career – back on track with a high-class century on the first day in Colombo.After Joe Root won the toss for the eighth time in succession in Test cricket – one short of the all-time record for an individual captain – Bairstow made 110 to help England take advantage of first use of a dry track that is expected to offer more help for spinners as the game wears on. It also compensated for a slightly underwhelming display from his colleagues.It had been a tough few weeks for Bairstow. After suffering an ankle injury during the limited-overs section of the tour, he has had to watch on as Ben Foakes was called into the squad as a replacement and seized his chance so well it has become hard to see how Bairstow could reclaim the gloves.There was no recall even after he recovered his fitness. Bairstow was left out of the team for the Pallekele Test and won a recall here only after Sam Curran was ruled out with a side strain.There was a catch, though. The only spot available for Bairstow was at No. 3; a position for which he had never previously showed any enthusiasm and in which he had little experience for Yorkshire.Whatever reservations Bairstow may have had about the role, however, he seized the chance wonderfully well. Easing his first delivery through the covers for four, Bairstow looked completely at home while cutting and sweeping his way to his sixth Test century, and his first batting above No. 6.More significantly, it was England’s first century from No. 3 in two years, and 27 Tests, since Root made one in Rajkot. It would probably be premature to conclude that Bairstow has nailed down the position for the foreseeable – some very different challenges loom back in England, in particular – but he has surely made himself hard to leave out when England pick their side for the first Test in the Caribbean in a couple of months.Perhaps that explained Bairstow’s emotion upon reaching the landmark. Dropping his bat and seeming to roar in the direction of the media centre, Bairstow appeared to feel he had proved his doubters wrong. Or perhaps it was simply relief. This century was made in stifling heat and Bairstow was struggling with cramp long before he reached his landmark.Either way, England were grateful for Bairstow’s contribution. On a good batting track, none of their other batsmen were able to take advantage for long enough to set the imposing first-innings total for which they would have hoped – 400 is probably somewhere around par at this stage.After an impatient Rory Burns was bowled, giving himself a huge amount of room and attempting to cut a delivery that was neither wide enough or short enough for the stroke, Keaton Jennings failed to spot a field change and turned one straight into the hands of leg slip. Root again looked in sparkling form as he added 100 for the third wicket with Bairstow, but when he top-edged a slog-sweep it brought Sri Lanka back into the game.Bairstow added a further 99 with Ben Stokes. After surviving a nervous start, taking 14 balls to get off the mark, Stokes started to find his feet with a series of pulls and sweeps, once skipping down the pitch to drill Dilruwan Perera for a straight six and once heaving him over midwicket.At 235 for 3, England looked set for a total somewhere in excess of 400. But Stokes was drawn into pushing at one that left him from Lakshan Sandakan, which gripped and took his edge, Jos Buttler drilled a return catch to the same bowler and Foakes edged an attempted cut.Sri Lanka may be frustrated, though. Stokes survived a couple of strong lbw appeals before he had scored with replays suggesting the second of them, off Dilruwan, could have been overturned had Sri Lanka had a review available. Similarly, Bairstow could have been given out, on review, on 103.As it was, however, Sri Lanka’s keeper, Niroshan Dickwella, had persuaded his captain to use both reviews within the first session of the day.The first, a caught behind appeal against Bairstow, showed the bat hitting the ground rather than any edge and the second, a leg before appeal against Root, showed the ball hit the pad well outside the line. So Sri Lanka had no reviews left.Dickwella completed a disappointing day when he put down Moeen Ali on 2. Moeen was also dropped at slip by Dimuth Karunaratne off the unfortunate Dilruwan on 17 and reviewed an lbw verdict on 19 which showed the ball passing harmlessly down the leg side.But Bairstow looked solid from the start. With the ball turning little and the surface offering a little more pace than previous ones in the series, Bairstow was able to defend with confidence and put away anything short. At one stage,Sandakan was hit for successive fours – a full toss sweep followed by a long-hop cut – before Malinda Pushpakumara was slog-swept for six.Indeed, on a blisteringly hot day – so warm has it been in Colombo lately that England have foregone their habit of warming-up for the day’s work with a game of football – that Bairstow’s biggest challenge would appear to have been the cramp that started to inhibit him long before he reached his century. It may well have been partially responsible for the hack across the line that ended his fine innings.He had long since proved his point by then, though. Challenged to bat out of position and under pressure, Bairstow had responded with a fine century that has retained his side’s hopes of achieving a first away whitewash (in a series of three matches or more) since 1963 and their first ever in Asia.

The London-born defender joined the Gunners' junior set-up in 2020 after a spell with Tottenham Hotspur and a failed move to Manchester United.

In north London, the "superb talent" as described by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, has played in 63 youth games in which his position has been recorded, scoring one goal, providing four assists and bouncing between right-back, centre-back, right of midfield, and he has even played one game at left-back.

This positional versatility will surely make him an invaluable player for a manager such as Arteta, and even mirrors the flexibility that Timber will offer the manager once he returns from injury.

Reuell Walters could be Arsenal's next Jurrien Timber

Now, that may sound a bit premature to some; after all, Timber has barely played for the Gunners due to his unfortunate injury, and Walters hasn't made a single competitive senior appearance in his career.

However, the pair's positional versatility and willingness to play across the backline – and even venture further forward – will invariably see them compared as they both continue to progress in north London.

Four years Walters' senior, the former Ajax man has obviously played many more games than his younger competition. However, just like with Walters, in the 227 matches he has played in which his position was recorded, the Dutchman has demonstrated his ability to play multiple roles.

Ultimately, one of the main reasons that Arteta and co brought in Timber was his versatility. So, if the Spaniard wants a player with that attribute, he should give Walters a run out in a game that holds no real jeopardy for the club.

The teen has already caught the eye of experienced teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko who has been left stunned by his talent, with the Ukrainian star telling Rio Ferdinand previously: "I like so much centre-back Reuell.

"I think the qualities he has, he is aggressive. I swear to God, one time he pushed Gabriel Jesus in a shoulder-to-shoulder. It is not easy to push Gabriel because he is very strong, and he was confident on the ball afterwards, he kept the ball well and passed.

"Wow. He impresses me I think the most."

Who knows, the youngster could impress Arteta so much that Timber has to battle his way back into the starting XI after his recovery.
