Lucas Braga comentou sobre esses próximos confrontos do time.

Hopes for West Ham as broadcaster shares update on Tuchel replacing Moyes

There are "hopes" that a praised 4-2-3-1 manager can be "persuaded" to West Ham United as head coach David Moyes becomes more under-fire.

Moyes contract talks postponed as West Ham consider alternatives

For now, contract renewal talks with Moyes are believed to be on hold as the club's hierarchy wait and see how results in the near future pan out.

Manager on brink of exit after claim West Ham could replace Moyes with him

More pressure is on Moyes after damaging defeat to Forest at the weekend.

ByEmilio Galantini Feb 20, 2024

According to reports, West Ham have also been exploring alternatives to Moyes, with the club yet to win a single game in all competitions since the turn of 2024. Their poor form has been comparable to a relegation-threatened side, and this isn't the first time Moyes has been threatened with West Ham's axe over the last 12 months.

The Scotsman guided them to a Europa Conference League triumph in Prague last year, West Ham's first trophy since the 1980s, but their league form remains a real worry.

The Hammers found themselves in a battle to avoid the drop last season, and there are some complaints over Moyes' dogmatic approach to games from sections of supporters. Indeed, members of the fan base were even pictured hoisting "Moyes out" banners in the away end during last weekend's 2-0 defeat away to Nottingham Forest.

However, while Moyes is under mounting pressure, he does still have credit in the bank. Their Conference League win, combined with the fact they've qualified for Europe in each full season of the 60-year-old's tenure, gives West Ham chiefs a very tough decision to make.

West Ham manager David Moyes.

If the east Londoners do decide to part company after a very memorable era, the likes of Paulo Fonseca, Graham Potter and Steve Cooper are reportedly on West Ham's managerial shortlist.

Another shock contender for the job is Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, who will lave the German giants at the end of the season. The 50-year-old's side are currently far behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title race, and if they were to miss out on the German top-flight crown, it would be for the first time since they were beaten to the punch by Borussia Dortmund in 2012.

Hopes West Ham persuade Tuchel

That isn't to say Tuchel hasn't got plenty of credentials as a coach, though, with the tactician boasting a Champions League winners medal among his plethora of other honours in the dugout.

Broadcaster talkSPORT, and their journalist Sam May, now back London Stadium interest in the big-name 4-2-3-1 boss, and there are apparently hopes West Ham can persuade Tuchel to make a move back to London following his successful spell at Chelsea.

Thomas Tuchel

Tuchel, among the many trophies he's won, is also respected by elite counterparts like Man City's Pep Guardiola.

“He’s so creative with good build-up and connection, good runners and players who are good in the spaces," said Guardiola on Tuchel before their Champions League final clash in 2021.

“Both [Tuchel and Nagelsmann] are so creative with the shape they play."

Middlesex slip to 87 for 7 after Steven Finn’s four-for helps dismantle Durham

Ben Raine and Steven Finn led the clatter of wickets as bowlers ran amok on the first day of the Specsavers County Championship clash between Middlesex and Durham at Lord’s.Former England Test star Finn bowled with real pace and aggression to bundle the visitors out for 147, only for Raine to respond with 3 for 12 to leave Middlesex’s reply in tatters at 87 for 7, still 60 in arrears.Australia batsman Peter Hanscomb showed runs could be made with a fluent half-century for Durham, but his innings apart, this September pitch proved a graveyard for batsmen. For more than an hour, Middlesex skipper Dawid Malan would have been questioning his decision to bowl first after winning the toss as Cameron Steel and Alex Lees looked untroubled against the new ball. Steel in particular was in fluent form, stroking a glorious cover drive off Seaxes’ debutant Miguel Cummins before riding a lifting ball from Finn to square cut it to the fence. However, James Harris’ trapping of Lees lbw in an impressive opening spell signalled the start of the bowlers’ dominance. Just six balls later, Finn bowled Steel off an inside edge and when Cummins claimed Angus Robson caught at slip for a duck from the first ball of his second spell, three wickets had fallen for three runs in 27 deliveries. And Tim Murtagh made the visitors’ lunch all the more indigestible when he found the edge of Gareth Harte’s bat to give wicketkeeper John Simpson his first catch of the innings from the last ball before the interval. The trend was set and wickets continued to tumble on the resumption. Murtagh, by now in his familiar groove from the Nursery End, trapped Scott Steel lbw and Finn followed suit to send Durham skipper Ned Eckersley on his way. Harris then accounted for Raine courtesy of a stunning catch by Sam Robson, and Brydon Carse nicked Finn through to Simpson.Hanscomb looked a class above all else on show, standing firm to reach his fifty in 66 balls with nine fours. Murtagh though retuned to castle him as the last three wickets fell for no addition to the score.Any celebrations in the home dressing room would be short-lived however as Nick Gubbins fell lbw to Carse without a run on the board. Eskinazi rode his luck to make 24 before Nathan Rimmington spread-eagled his stumps and then it was time for Chris Rushworth. He accounted for Robson with a beauty which committed the batsman to the shot, the ball taking the edge for Eckersley to pouch the catch. His second scalp proved the better bowler you are the luckier you get as Max Holden, back in Middlesex ranks for the first time in four Championship games, flicked a ball crisply off his legs, but straight to Harte at square leg.Another returnee for the hosts George Scott didn’t last long, bowled by a beauty from Raine, who then picked up Simpson three balls later lbw for a duck. And the medium-pacer then struck the most telling blow of all when his lbw shout against Malan was upheld. His trio of scalps had come in just 11 balls.Only the intervention of bad light seven balls later prevented further carnage on a joyous day for bowlers.

"One of Rangers’ big fears" – Ibrox chiefs worried "special" gem will leave

Those high up at Rangers are worried that a "special" Ibrox player could look for a move away from the club in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Rangers transfer news

The Gers are still excelling in the Scottish Premiership this season, with Saturday's 5-0 drubbing of Hearts ensuring they remain two points clear at the top of the table.

Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season, though, new signings have to come in during the summer transfer window, allowing Philippe Clement to take his team to the next level with players specific to his needs and system.

Oscar Cortes arrived on loan from Lens back in January, but recent reports have claimed that Rangers intend to make his move a permanent one in the summer, assuming he does well in the coming months.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie is also seen as an option to come in and make the Gers' attack more fearsome, and the attacker will be available on a free transfer when his contract at Bramall Lane runs out at the end of the campaign.

It is also imperative that Clement manages to keep hold of important current players, though, and a key update has now been provided regarding one influential Ibrox hero.

Rangers chiefs worried Todd Cantwell will leave

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones said that Rangers chiefs are concerned that Todd Cantwell could leave this summer, even though he appears to be happy at the club currently.

"I think Cantwell, he seems to be anyway, loving life at Rangers. I would be surprised if he left the club in the summer. But obviously, one of Rangers' big fears will be that Premier League clubs are looking at his situation and decide to put some big money on the table. It's certainly not out of the question, given how well he's been playing at times."

Rangers midfielder Todd Cantwell.

The idea of Rangers losing Cantwell this summer is a worrying one, considering the positive impact he has made since arriving on a permanent deal from Norwich City last year.

The 25-year-old has added techincal quality in midfield, possessing an ability to keep the ball in tight areas, but he is also a hard-working presence, giving his all for the cause. A tally of five goals and three assists in the middle of the park is a good return in the Championship in 2023/24, and his former youth team coach Gary Cockaday has hailed him as a "special" talent in the past.

As Jones alludes to, Cantwell does appear to be happy at Rangers, so a move away would arguably come as a shock, but there is reason to be concerned about his head being turned by a move back to England.

The games Todd Cantwell could now miss for Rangers after hamstring injury

A significant fitness setback for the Gers.

ByHenry Jackson Feb 24, 2024

Scottish Premiership glory this season could make the Englishman believe that Ibrox is his best destination moving forward, and he is going to play a massive part in any potential success that comes the club's way once he returns from injury.

Batting depth the difference, says Heather Knight, after Deepti Sharma lifts Storm over the line

Sharma’s crucial unbeaten 39 from 22 balls from No. 6 pulls Storm through nail-biting run chase

Heather Knight paid credit to her Western Storm side’s batting depth after Deepti Sharma’s crucial unbeaten 39 from 22 balls from No. 6 lifted them over the line in a nail-biting run chase against Southern Vipers at Hove.Sharma came in with Storm needing 70 off 7.3 overs after prolific openers Smriti Mandhana and Rachel Priest had fallen early, but struck seven boundaries in her cameo in the middle to support Knight – who made 78 not out – as they chased down their target with an over to spare.”We’ve had people throughout the order play brilliantly throughout the competition,” Knight said. “Fran Wilson and Sophie Luff have been outstanding for us this year, and Deepti has had some really good cameos, even though she hasn’t had to bat too much.”I’m really delighted with how we’ve gone. The two at the top [Mandhana and Priest] obviously have a job to try and score quickly and sometimes that doesn’t pay off so we’ve got the middle order to patch that up if that does happen.”Also read: Knight leads Storm to title with unbeaten 78 against VipersVipers captain Tammy Beaumont suggested that while her side’s middle order had chipped in throughout the tournament, the difference in batting depth was ultimately the difference between the sides.”Yeah definitely, you look at them – they’ve got seven international players, and we’re kind of lacking that a little bit in our team,” she said.”Full credit to the girls, they’ve all stepped up at different times. Amanda Wellington has played some gems of innings for us at five or six, and so have Fi Morris and Paige Scholfield, so that’s just the way it is. But yeah, of course – having someone of the class of Deepti is maybe a little bit of a difference there.”The contrast with the Vipers – who were 134 for 1 after 14 overs, but lost six wickets for 38 runs in the final six overs – was clear, and Knight paid credit to her side’s decision to sign a full quota of overseas players that would be available for Finals Day, which contrasted with the other two sides.”Trevor Griffin has been amazing, putting the squad together,” she said. “No-one works harder as a coach than him in the early summer going to see players play in county cricket, and stuff like that, and assembling the best squad we could.”We made the decision to go with an overseas [player] that was going to be available for the final, because obviously we lost Smriti last year. It was sad to let Stafanie [Taylor] go but obviously she wasn’t available for today, and Deepti’s been outstanding for us, and obviously we had that little bit of extra depth which was nice.”With Danni Wyatt, who was confirmed as player of the tournament after the final, striking the ball cleanly, the Vipers had been set for a total far in advance of the 172 they ended up with, and Knight credited her seamers with dragging things back in their favour.”I thought they were on for 200-plus at one point, the way Tammy and Danni were going there in the middle,” Knight said. “It was a really good track, really hard to defend or stop the flow of runs when players were going like that.”We bowled outstandingly – Freya [Davies] and Anya [Shrubsole] in particular pulled it back nicely, managed to pick up a few wickets and I thought 170 was going to be really tough to chase, but we knew it was probably within our grasp.”We’ve chased some really good totals over the past couple of years, and we’ve somehow found a way to win a lot this season in tricky situations, so to do that, with the belief we’ve had, we knew that if one batter was there at the end we were in with a good chance. [I’m] delighted it was me, and happy to pick up the trophy.”

Newcastle must wish they never signed a flop who’s worth less than Targett

Newcastle United have enjoyed success in recent seasons in the transfer market, with the club investing heavily in the first-team squad with the club progressing rapidly in such a short space of time.

The Magpies were taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) in 2021, with their huge investment allowing the club to pull clear of any looming threat of relegation with Eddie Howe doing a tremendous job in transforming the club.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe.

The takeover has allowed for high-profile players such as Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman to arrive at the club, with the trio playing a crucial role within Howe's impressive Magpies side.

However, the club have also invested money poorly in recent years, with Matt Targett being one example of a transfer that hasn't worked out as either party would've hoped for.

Despite Targett's unsuccessful move to St James' Park, there's another player whose big-money move to join the Magpies was a disaster, with both the player and the club needing to cut ties with each other.

Jamal Lewis' stats at Newcastle United

After an impressive campaign for Norwich City in the Premier League, Newcastle pounced on the Canaries' relegation by signing left-back Jamal Lewis for £15m – fending off competition from Liverpool for his signature.

There was real promise around Lewis' arrival at the club in 2020. However, after a solid first campaign at the club, the defender quickly dropped down the Magpies' pecking order.

During his first campaign at the club, he made 24 appearances in the Premier League, 20 of which came from the start with Lewis only featuring for six minutes in the league after the 1-1 draw against Wolves in February.

The 26-year-old only featured seven times over the course of the next two Premier League campaigns, before temporarily leaving the club during this season – dropping to the Championship for the first time since Norwich's promotion campaign in 2018/19.

Jamal Lewis' market value in 2024

After his lack of minutes at St James' Park, the left-back completed a season-long loan to Watford in the Championship – a move that has allowed Lewis to gain valuable first-team minutes.

He's since made 28 appearances for the Hornets in the second-tier, with the Northern Ireland international finally starting to regain some form after a couple of seasons without regular football.

The lack of football on Tyneside has seen the defender's market value crash from £15m down to just £3m as per Transfermarkt – five times less than what the club paid for him just four years ago.

To put that into context, four players are valued higher in the whole Watford squad while it would rank him as 23rd for transfer valuation among the playing staff at St James', below that of the aforementioned Targett.

His move at the time may have been a promising one for both Newcastle and Lewis, but it's been nothing short of a disaster. With the defender having one-year left on his deal at St James', the summer could present the Magpies' last opportunity to sell Lewis and recoup some of the £15m they paid for him.

This is the former India allrounder’s third stint at the KSCA – he was a vice-president from 2007 to 2012 – and it will keep him in office until 2021-22.Former India women captain Shanta Rangaswamy, who resigned from the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee on Sunday, became the first woman to be elected to a managing committee in the KSCA.Binny, 64, was part of the World Cup-winning side in 1983, finishing the tournament as the highest wicket-taker. He played 99 games for India (27 Tests and 72 ODIs) scoring a total of 1459 runs and picking up 124 wickets. The Supreme Court of India had ordered all state associations in India to conduct elections by October 4. Several of them have announced their results but the KSCA is one of few to have chosen a cricketer as its president after former captains Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin took charge in Bengal and Hyderabad respectively. Saurashtra too have a former player as its chief – Jaydev Shah, who played over 100 first-class games. He is also the son of longtime cricket administrator Niranjan Shah. This isn’t the first time a cricketer will be running things in Karnataka cricket, though. Anil Kumble was elected president of the state association in 2010, and his team included the likes of Javagal Srinath and Vijay Bharadwaj, as well as Binny. Brijesh Patel, too, has served in various capacities in the KSCA over the years. Additionally, this time, KSCA also has a former umpire as its joint secretary – Shavir Tarapore.
