Rangers: Robby McCrorie speculation quashed

A big update has emerged on Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie and interest in his services in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Rangers insider The 4th Official has poured cold water on a report stating that a team south of the border are keen on a deal for the Ibrox academy graduate.

They Tweeted: “Please treat every transfer report that comes out right now with a healthy dose of scepticism (and that includes what I put out). We are at that stage where I am having to put out articles on Patreon that Robby McCrory to Manchester United is obviously not true.”

This comes after the Scottish Sun claimed that the Red Devils, among other clubs in Scotland and England, are lining up a swoop for the shot-stopper.

The Gers are said to be bracing themselves for offers to come in for him, although this latest update rules out any coming from Old Trafford.

Gio van Bronckhorst will be buzzing

Van Bronckhorst will be left buzzing by this news as it means that McCrorie will not be tempted by the prospect of playing for Manchester United.

The thought of training against the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo on a regular basis, with the potential to play in the Premier League may be appealing to the youngster. Therefore, The 4th Official debunking the claim takes that dream off the table.

This, therefore, increases the chances of him remaining at Ibrox, barring any interest from another European giant, and van Bronckhorst will be delighted by that.

Whilst he is yet to make the breakthrough as a number one in Glasgow, he has shown that he is a capable deputy between the sticks. In his one Premiership outing last season, McCrorie recorded an excellent SofaScore rating of 7.4 against Celtic in the Old Firm – keeping a clean sheet and saving all three of the shots on his goal.

At 24, he is still very young for a goalkeeper and can be a future number one for the club, whilst potentially being second choice behind Jon McLaughlin next term. He is 16 years younger than Allan McGregor and this illustrates how much time he has left ahead of him to make a name for himself at Ibrox.

Therefore, van Bronckhorst will be keen to keep hold of him this summer to ensure that he has a strong group of goalkeeping options, which is why he will be buzzing with United’s lack of interest in the Scot.

Tottenham eye Everton striker Richarlison

Transfer insider David Ornstein has now revealed some worrying Everton news involving Richarlison.

The Lowdown: Everton’s saviour

It is safe to say that the 25-year-old was the Toffees’ saviour at the end of the season, as he scored six goals and provided a further two assists in his last 10 matches in the Premier League, including a goal in the 3-2 win at home to Crystal Palace which secured their top-flight status (Transfermarkt).

After Everton were involved in a relegation fight, there is bound to be some interest from top clubs in the Brazil international this summer, so Frank Lampard’s side may struggle to keep hold of him.

The Latest: Tottenham interest in Richarlison

Taking to Twitter in sharing a report from The Athletic, Ornstein – who regularly breaks transfer news and updates – has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now ‘interested’ in signing Richarlison, and that ‘some close to EFC’ think that a move ‘will happen’.

He tweeted: “Tottenham interested in signing Richarlison. No bid yet – will only do it at right price + have other options. Everton want more than reported €60m but need for funds likely to reduce fee + some close to #EFC think #THFC move will happen.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Worrying

It certainly is worrying that Spurs could come in for Richarlison, especially given that fact that they can offer him Champions League football next term.

The 25-year-old is one of Everton’s most important players, having been their top scorer and highest-rated performer in 2021/22 (as per WhoScored), so he would not be easy to replace at all.

Moreover, as Ornstein reports, they may have to end up selling him for a reduced fee due to their need for funds, which would be another kick in the teeth in terms of trying to find a replacement.

Rangers: Josh McPake attracting interest

An update has emerged regarding Rangers youngster Josh McPake and his future at Ibrox ahead of the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed that the winger is being eyed up by a number of teams south of the border after a loan spell in the fourth tier of English football.

The reporter tweeted: “Understand Rangers youngster Josh McPake is the subject of interest from several League Two sides. Carlisle United and Hartlepool United are keen on the attacker, who’s just finished his loan spell at Tranmere Rovers.”

Ross Wilson will be delighted

Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson will be left delighted by this claim, as it suggests that he will be able to cash in on the attacker in the coming months.

The youngster has spent the last two seasons on loan in League Two but failed to show that he has the potential to come back and make an impact in the first-team at Rangers.

In the 2020/21 campaign, he scored four goals and failed to provide a single assist in 23 outings for Harrogate Town. He also lost 56% of his duels as he struggled to deal with the physicality of the game, although that was to be expected as it was the then-teenager’s first experience of regular senior football.

However, he did not use that season to improve, as he left a lot to be desired again in 2021/22. In 14 League Two appearances for Tranmere, he managed one goal and zero assists whilst losing 62% of his individual battles.

These statistics indicate that McPake regressed after a year of experience in the English fourth tier, and this is a worry in relation to his future at Ibrox. He has not shown that he is on the right path in his development and there is little to suggest that he is a player who Gio van Bronckhorst will want to call upon any time soon.

Therefore, now is the right time – whilst his stock is seemingly high amongst League Two clubs – to cash in on him whilst the Gers still can.

At the age of 20, clubs may want to take a punt on him in case he is able to improve over time, but his statistics in his career so far are less than encouraging with respect to the chances of him making the first-team in Glasgow.

Wilson will now be delighted to learn of the interest in McPake’s services, as he can rake in a fee for the underperforming youngster and use the money to bring in another young prospect or invest it in another area of the club.

Spurs plotting five or six new signings

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to back Antonio Conte with an abundance of new signings this off-season…

What’s the word?

That’s according to reliable Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor, who delivered a fresh claim on Spurs’ transfer plans to GIVEMESPORT over the weekend.

“I do think they will back Conte with five or six new signings, I’m just not sure they will all be in before pre-season, it will rumble on,” he said.

“We might see swap deals as well, Paratici has shown that he likes the open negotiating instead of paying straight money.

“If Spurs have got deadwood in their squad, which we know they do, there’s a lot of players that could leave and they could look to exchange those for players they actually want to sign.”

Conte will be buzzing

The north London outfit have already secured their first arrival in Ivan Perisic, a veteran wing-back who Conte has worked with before at Inter Milan, and now appear to be close to announcing Fraser Forster as Hugo Lloris’ backup next term.

And based on the aforementioned update, the Lilywhites’ hierarchy – largely sporting director Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy – aren’t close to being done yet.

After securing Champions League qualification on the final day, the 52-year-old is set to receive a massive boost with the club seemingly prepared to sign further options to his squad, something that’ll be needed if they are to compete on all fronts.

This should leave the manager absolutely buzzing as he can expect four or five new names following their Perisic swoop.

A left-footed central defender is thought to be high on the priorities, with Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol very much top targets for the role, whilst an alternative to Harry Kane wouldn’t go amiss either.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Conte land a right wing-back either, amid interest in newly-promoted Nottingham Forest loanee Djed Spence, whilst names like Youri Tielemans, Christian Eriksen and Lautaro Martinez have all been mooted, too.

The Italian head coach must be excited to see how the summer pans out heading into his first pre-season in charge of Spurs.

Spurs want Prem titan after Eriksen blow

Tottenham Hotspur could turn to Yves Bissouma after suffering a blow to their chances of sealing a sensational return for Christian Eriksen…

What’s the word?

According to LondonWorld, Spurs will renew their interest in the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder if they cannot bring the Danish playmaker back to Hotspur Way.

Well, as per Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridges, that does appear unlikely in a gutting blow to supporters. He recently told GIVEMESPORT:

“I did the Brentford Q&A awards last Thursday, and he kind of gave me the impression that [Tottenham] is a non-starter.”

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-updates-transfer-rumours-gossip-spurs-thfc-conte-paratici” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

It’s not the first time that the Seagulls powerhouse has been linked with a switch to north London and after another impressive campaign in the big time, it could be time to make a bid, especially after missing out on Eriksen.

Midfield powerhouse

Spurs have plenty of priorities this off-season, including the additions of a new left-sided centre-back and a stronger right wing-back option. However, with the team in the Champions League next term, then strength in depth will be required.

There won’t be many better candidates to add steel to the engine room than Bissouma, who has proven his worth in the big time over the past 18 to 24 months.

As per WhoScored, he ended the 2021/22 campaign as Graham Potter’s highest-rated player (with 20 starts or more) on WhoScored, averaging a more than respectable 6.99.

His defensive output was pretty remarkable, having averaged 2.9 tackles and 1.9 interceptions per game, something that exceeded all of Antonio Conte’s current squad in the Premier League.

Not even stalwart Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (2.2 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game) could match the Mali international’s numbers. The Italian head coach would love a player of that calibre, given his work rate and brute strentgh.

It’s evident that Bissouma, once lauded as a “wonderful talent” by ex-manager Chris Hughton and a “Champions League level” talent by Potter, is an upgrade on what Spurs currently have in defensive midfield and considering his valuation of £31.5m, he should be a very attainable target indeed.

He may be a vastly different style to Eriksen but if anything, that’s a better fit for Conte’s current system, where there is no room for a no.10. Bissouma just makes sense, so sporting director Fabio Paratici must look to pounce when the transfer window reopens.

Manchester United: Fabrizio Romano shares Malcom Ebiowei interest

Manchester United and Crystal Palace are both interested in signing Derby County gem Malcolm Ebiowei, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Dutch takeover?

Erik ten Hag has made a head start on a United rebuild after terminating his Ajax contract six weeks early and is already looking to bring two fellow countrymen to Old Trafford.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates-2/” title=”Latest Man Utd updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Red Devils are reportedly keen to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The pair have starred under Ten Hag at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, and it looks as if Ebiowei, who also has a Dutch passport, is on the club’s radar as well.

The Latest: Romano’s update

Romano took to Twitter on Thursday evening to provide a transfer update on Ebiowei.

The transfer expert stated that both United and Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on the talented striker. Romano added that Steve McClaren’s return to Old Trafford from Derby ‘could be a factor’ in a possible move.

The Verdict: Shrewd move?

Ebiowei, previously on the books at Arsenal and West Ham, is just 18 years of age and can play anywhere in attack. He seemingly caught the eye of United legend Wayne Rooney last season, with the Derby boss handing the teenager his senior debut.

Ebiowei made 16 Championship appearances in 2021/22 and is also wanted by sides in both France and the Netherlands, so a summer swoop could prove to be a smart one in the long run.

McClaren should be able to give Ten Hag the lowdown regarding the forward, so a transfer could be one to keep an eye on alongside big-money moves for Timber and De Jong.

Minamino can leave Liverpool for £17m

Liverpool will allow forward Takumi Minamino to leave this summer if a £17million offer comes along, according to reliable journalist David Lynch.

The Lowdown: Minamino’s excellent season

The Reds have enjoyed a sensational season, with a quadruple still not completely out of the question, and numerous world-class names have shone throughout the campaign.

Someone whose influence has gone under the radar is Minamino, however, with the Japanese scoring ten goals in all competitions, including one against Southampton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

It could be that the 27-year-old moves on this summer, however, having struggled to enjoy regular playing time.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-33/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Latest: Exit claim emerges

Taking to Twitter and writing for Anfield Watch, Lynch claimed that Minamino is available for £17million, with Leeds United and Inter Milan keen on signing him:

“Inter and Leeds (should they avoid relegation) among the clubs eyeing Takumi Minamino this summer. LFC ready to set an asking price of around £17m for a player who has 10 goals from just nine starts this season.”

The Verdict: Keep hold of him?

Minamino may never have been the main man at Liverpool but he is a very effective player, with Jurgen Klopp hailing him as ‘exceptional’ in the past.

For that reason, it would be preferable for the Reds to keep hold of the Japan international, continuing to use him as an effective squad player who shines in domestic cup games.

It could be that Minamino wants more football moving forward, though, which is wholly understandable, and Liverpool receiving £17million for his services would certainly be no bad thing if he does want to leave.

Aston Villa frontrunners to sign Phillips

Aston Villa are among the favourites to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to a report from Football Insider.

The lowdown: Phillips a wanted man

As the Yorkshire club face the threat of relegation from the Premier League, Phillips remains hot property following a breakthrough 18 months at the elite level.

Having helped guide Leeds into the top flight, the 26-year-old was outstanding whilst earning a 7.21 Sofascore rating during the 2020/21 campaign, winning 5.3 duels, making 2.6 tackles and completing 41 accurate passes on average per match.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-updates-3/” title=”Latest Leeds United updates!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Despite struggling with an injury-hit campaign this time around, Phillips has still been heavily linked with a move away this summer, with West Ham United seeing a bid rejected in the January transfer window.

The latest: Villa in the mix for Phillips

As per a recruitment source at Football Insider, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are believed to be ‘leading the race’ to sign Phillips.

It is claimed that both clubs have made the 19-cap England international a ‘top target’ for the upcoming transfer window and have already begun the required ‘groundwork’ to make a deal happen.

The report added that Manchester United are ‘also keen’ to sign the 26-year-old, who was hailed as ‘phenomenal’ by former Three Lions manager Fabio Capello during a standout Euro 2020.

The verdict: Make it happen

So far this season, Phillips – currently a one-club man –  has made 22 appearances across all competitions for Leeds, scoring once and providing one assist.

Predominantly a defensive-minded midfielder, the combative Englishman boasts an array of impressive attributes including tackling, blocking and interceptions (WhoScored), which makes him the ideal man to bolster Steven Gerrard’s squad should ownership group NSWE sanction a big-money move.

Indeed, his average of 2.7 tackles per game is the joint-second highest at Elland Road, which highlights the steel he offers in the middle of the park.

Having had the chance to assess the current playing staff since his arrival at Villa Park, Gerrard is expected to shake up the ranks over the summer. As such, the likes of midfield duo Marvelous Nakamba and Morgan Sanson could be on their way out of the Midlands, potentially making room and indeed providing funds for Phillips’ possible arrival.

Rangers handed Ryan Jack boost

Ibrox boss Gio van Bronckhorst has been handed a huge Rangers injury lift over Ryan Jack ahead of the Europa League final next week…

What’s the talk?

Bundesliga journalist and commentator Derek Rae has revealed that the club are expecting the midfielder to be fit enough for the Europa League final next week.

The reporter has also confirmed that Scott Wright will not miss out on the game after he suffered a blow in the club’s 4-1 win over Ross County.

Rae tweeted: “After his goal, Scott Wright had to leave the pitch due to a bruise but his use in the final does not seem to be in danger. Rangers are confident that the important sweeper Ryan Jack will return, but for attacking all-rounder Kemar Roofe it will probably be tight.”

Supporters will be buzzing

The Light Blues’ supporters will surely be buzzing over this news, as having Jack fit and available is a major boost for the club.

He has not featured in a matchday squad for the Gers since the 3-1 win over RB Leipzig in the semi-final of the Europa League earlier this month but looks set to be winning the race to be ready to face Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville on Wednesday night.

Jack has been sublime in Europe for the Gers this season. After an injury-hit start to the campaign, he returned to fitness and has started eight matches in the Europa League for Van Bronckhorst, averaging an excellent SofaScore rating of 6.94.

The Scotland international has made 3.3 tackles and interceptions per game and won 55% of his duels in the Europa League. This shows that he has been able to consistently hold his own in the middle of the park, winning the ball back off the opposition on a regular basis and providing the attack with a solid base from which to work.

He and John Lundstram have started all eight of the club’s knockout ties, although the latter has played at centre-back on occasion, and they have formed a strong partnership in midfield.

Therefore, the 30-year-old’s return will be a major boost for Van Bronckhorst’s side. Jack has proven that he can put in top-quality displays alongside Lundstram, helping the club to beat the likes of Braga and Borussia Dortmund along the way, and the supporters will be buzzing with his availability as they will want to see the best possible XI out on the pitch in Seville.

Ange drops double Celtic transfer claim

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted that the club are ‘in discussions’ with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota over permanent summer moves.

The Lowdown: Celtic loan duo influential

The Hoops are tantalisingly close to being crowned Premiership champions after missing out last season, with numerous players doing their bit for the cause.

Carter-Vickers and Jota arrived on loan last summer from Tottenham and Benfica respectively, and they have both been hugely influential performers.

The former has been a rock at the back, winning an average of four aerial duels per league game, while the latter has scored 11 goals and registered 12 assists overall.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/key-latest-celtic-updates-5/” title=”Key latest Celtic updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Postecoglou drops fresh transfer claim

The hope is that Carter-Vickers and Jota both stay on this summer and join Celtic permanently, and speaking to the media [via Daily Record], Postecoglou stated that the transfers would hopefully happen:

“We are in discussions with them obviously, and as I have said all along, with these kind of things it’s never a simple process. But both have had unbelievable years for us and been outstanding contributors and both are really happy here.

“Our intent is to try and keep them at our football club but these things need a point where all parties agree. I am hopeful we will get to that point but at this point we are not quite there yet.”

The Verdict: Get it sorted

Signing both Carter-Vickers and Jota permanently is an absolute no-brainer for Celtic, considering how crucial they have both been to the Hoops’ success this season.

They have slotted in seamlessly despite only arriving on a temporary basis, and at the ages of 24 and 23 respectively, they would both come in as long-term additions under Postecoglou.

There is likely to be interest from other clubs this summer, which could prove to be a stumbling block, but if the duo want to stay put at Parkhead, it is an easy decision for Celtic to make.
