Wolves fans on Boly injury vs Real Betis

Many Wolves fans have been left to fume as injury news involving Willy Boly emerges.

Tim Spiers confirmed on his official Twitter page that the central defender had to come off early in the first half of their friendly game against Real Betis on Saturday evening.

The Athletic journalist claimed that it was ‘possibly’ a hamstring injury, as Max Kilman had to come on in his place.

Boly was a key player for the Midlands club in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, ranking highly among his teammates in terms of average tackles (1.6), interceptions (1.5) and clearances (four) per game (Whoscored).

If it is a hamstring injury, then the Frenchman faces a race to be fit for the start of the top-flight campaign, and Bruno Lage will be hoping that it is not serious at all.

Ashley Preece drops Villa claim on El Ghazi

The Birmingham Mail’s Ashley Preece has revealed that Anwar El Ghazi’s long-term future at Aston Villa is uncertain, and even raised the possibility of the club looking to move him on.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent days have suggested that Serie A giants AS Roma have made an approach to sign the winger, with Dean Smith now willing to let him go as he looks to try and revamp his attack ahead of the new Premier League season.

When asked about those reports linking the Dutchman with an exit from Villa Park, Preece replied: “He’s got less than two years left on his deal and there’s been no talk whatsoever about Villa wanting to extend it which tells you everything.

“It’s a big season for AEG who *could* be sold for a small profit. I am, though, expecting him to stay knowing Trezeguet’s out long term. AEG scored 10 last season; his Villa career is in the balance going into this one…”

Villa fans will be worried

While consistency is something which has affected El Ghazi badly in his time at Villa Park – last season score the bulk of his 10 Premier League goals in just two purple patches over the course of the campaign – there’s no questioning that he’s got the talent.

Speaking after his goal against Crystal Palace earlier this year, former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown said: “Dean Smith told me his training in how he executes those finishes is there for all to see. Craig Shakespeare then backed him straight up when I ran into him later, he just said ‘what a technician he is.’

“He’s practising in training, he has a bad week against Burnley: eight shots, great chances, can’t put one away. Then he scores against West Brom, then goes and puts one in the top bins like he did last night… Magnificent is the word we’re all looking for.”

The Dutchman was the club’s second highest scorer last season, behind only Ollie Watkins, while his underlying stats make for impressive reading.

As per WhoScored, he ranked second in the entire squad for shots per game, second in crosses, and in the top six for dribbles per match in the Premier League – that’s a real testament to how he’s always tried to make things happen whenever he’s been afforded the chance to play.

Potentially letting El Ghazi go, without first signing a top-quality replacement, would be bad business and could worry fans over the strength in depth in those wide positions.

At just 25, the Dutchman still has the peak years of his career ahead of him, and the fact he was only outscored by Watkins last season despite not always being a regular starter shows that he does have the ability to be a good player for Villa.

Preece’s latest update may worry fans.

Meanwhile, Villa are eyeing this Brazilian ace…

West Brom star Pereira could join West Ham

West Brom star Matheus Pereira is a ‘prime target’ for West Ham this summer as the Baggies face the prospect of losing the Brazilian.

The Lowdown: Pereira stars for West Brom

Albion were relegated from the Premier League last season but Pereira enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign on a personal note.

Despite his team’s struggles, the 25-year-old scored 11 goals and registered six assists in the league, standing out as arguably the star man at The Hawthorns.

The Latest: West Ham keen on signing

The Baggies now face the prospect of losing Pereira this summer, though, and The Daily Express claimed that Europa League entrants West Ham are desperate for him to replace Jesse Lingard next season.

A possible £25m move is mooted, with a loan move potentially turning into a permanent one over time.

The Verdict: Inevitable loss?

In an ideal world, West Brom would keep hold of Pereira – Micah Richards has dubbed the Brazilian a ‘delight to watch’ – but realistically he won’t want to be playing Championship football in 2021/22.

He is entering the prime years of his career and he surely won’t want to waste the next few months in the second tier, especially after proving his worth at top-flight level.

Should Pereira leave The Hawthorns, it is vital that Valerien Ismael spends the money from his sale wisely, bringing in players who can help spearhead his team’s promotion push.

In other news, West Brom have been linked with a summer move for a free agent. Find out who it is here.

Southampton miss out on William Saliba

Southampton have seemingly missed out on reported target William Saliba this summer, with the Arsenal man set to join Marseille on loan for next season.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were linked with a move for the 20-year-old defender recently but he will be returning to Ligue 1 on loan for the 2021/22 campaign after spending last season with OGC Nice.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein confirmed on Twitter that the young centre-back would join Marseille, which comes as a blow to Southampton, as his performances in recent seasons suggest that he could have been a stellar addition at St Mary’s.

Saliba is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal since joining from Saint Etienne in 2019, despite their defensive problems in recent seasons and he could’ve helped to steady the ship at Southampton after Hasenhuttl’s side conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League last season, with only relegated West Brom conceding more.

Last season saw the £16.2m-rated Frenchman make 20 appearances for Nice in Ligue 1, contributing one goal and averaging a solid, if unspectacular, 6.66/10 average rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Had he replicated those performances at Southampton, he would’ve been rated as the joint-10th best performer in Hasenhuttl’s squad, which suggests that he would’ve been a worthwhile addition this summer.

Although Arsenal are unlikely to want to sell the defender permanently, a loan move to Southampton would’ve suited both parties, as he could’ve established himself as a key player at St Mary’s and furthered his development by earning some valuable experience in the Premier League.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-southampton-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Southampton transfer rumours and news!”]

Saliba has won a lot of plaudits for his performances in Ligue 1 in recent seasons, with French youth coach Jean-Luc Vannuchi singing his praises after he joined Arsenal, saying:

“My first impression was that this was the biggest man of his generation.

“The difference between him and the other players was massive.

“When he took the ball and ran into midfield, no one could stop him. He was like a monster compared to the others. When he played with St-Etienne it looked normal for him, even though he was so young.”

He also compared his playing style to that of Virgil van Dijk and Raphael Varane, which suggests that he could’ve been an excellent signing for the Saints, and Hasenhuttl should be disappointed that he has instead opted to join Marseille.

And, in other news… Hasenhuttl could evolve his Saints attack with swoop for gem with “such talent”

A descoberta do fenômeno

Valeu a experiência.

Estou acostumado a apanhar.

Ele queria jogar no Palmeiras – explica o agente.

Conversamos e ele respondeu bem.

Chattergoon, Hooper guide Guyana to a healthy position

An unbeaten 92 from left-hander Sewnarine Chattergoon guided Guyana to a healthy 230 for four at the end of the first day of their three-day Busta Cup semi-final against Leeward Isles

Chattergoon and Azeemul Haniff made a steady start, adding 66 for the first wicket before Haniff was dismissed for 23.Lennox Joseph Cush and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who were the next two batsmen to follow, did not make significant contributions – Cush making 15 and Chanderpaul just 17.Then, followed, the tragic run-out of Ramnaresh Sarwan for no score; Guyana had suddenly slumped to 144 for four. Richard Walsh24-Jun-2002Somerset will be without the services of their skipper Jamie Cox after it was confirmed that he has a hairline fracture of his thumb as a result of receiving a blow to his right hand whilst he was batting against Hampshire at Bath.Jamie, who is currently at the top of the Somerset batting averages has played in all five championship matches so far this season and scored 385 runs at an average of 55, but he will be missing from the line up when the Cidermen travel to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire on Wednesday.Earlier today Jamie had to be a spectator at the County Ground as others trained. He told me: "Of course I am very disappointed at not being able to play. We haven’t had much cricket so far this season because of the weather, and just when it looks like being fine I’ll be missing."When was he hoping to return I asked. He told me: "I`m hoping to be back for the one day game against Worcester Royals on July 7th, but if not then it will be the championship match against Yorkshire at Scarborough."Chief executive Peter Anderson told me: "This is the second time in two years that Jamie has received a hand injury at Bath. He will be missing for at least two weeks and will miss some vital games for us."
