South East Stars 118 for 4 (Scholfield 50*, Grewcock 2-18) beat Sunrisers 116 for 8 (Miller 39*, Jones 2-13, Stonehouse 2-17) by six wicketsPaige Scholfield continued her rich vein of form as South East Stars cantered to a six-wicket win over hosts Sunrisers at Lord’s to remain unbeaten in this season’s Charlotte Edwards Cup.The South African-born allrounder – currently only able to bat because of an ongoing niggle – and who had made two half-centuries already in the campaign, made her third in finishing 50 not out, reaching the landmark with the winning hit, her eighth four.In truth, the chase for 117 was not an arduous one, Sunrisers having earlier been restricted to 116 for 8, Emma Jones with 2 for 13 and Alexa Stonehouse with 2 for 17 the principal wicket takers, while teenage starlet Tilly Corteen-Coleman got a wicket with her first ball of the game for the second time in the tournament. Flo Miller produced the only resistance with 39 not out from 45 balls.Sunrisers were soon in trouble. Shortly after steering the first boundary of the innings through third, skipper Grace Scrivens slashed one from Stonehouse straight to point.Corteen-Coleman bowled Alice Macleod and Sunrisers’ leading scorer in the tournament Jo Gardner then spooned Stonehouse to Sophia Dunkley at cover to depart for only 1.Mady Villiers sparkled briefly with two fours and a five from an overthrow in her 14, but when she chipped Jones to Phoebe Franklin at midwicket the hosts were in disarray at 27 for 4.That they mustered any sort of score was largely down to Miller, who played the only of innings of substance, sending a full toss from Franklin to the fence before later pulling a short one from Jones down to the Tavern boundary.Others came and went. Jodi Grewcock contributing to her own downfall with a sloppy piece of running which saw her run out by Corteen-Coleman’s direct hit, while Jones picked up a second wicket with a caught-and-bowled to see the back of Eva Gray.Dunkley (24) was quickly into stride, caressing one through the covers in the opening over of the Stars’ reply before dancing down the pitch to strike the spin of Villiers back over the top.Skipper Smith, scratchy at first, caught the mood, twice depositing short balls from Gray to the midwicket boundary. However, both departed in the same over from Grewcock, Dunkley stumped by Amara Carr as she again ventured down the wicket, while Smith nicked one through to the keeper.Jones, promoted to four, should have departed in the next over, only for two fielders to collide meaning a simple catch at mid-on was grassed. The Cambridge University student of veterinary surgery failed to profit from the life, holing out in the deep soon afterwards.Stars, though, were ahead of the rate and simply needed a steady hand on the tiller and not for the first time in the campaign that proved to be Schofield, who swept and pulled with authority in another sparkling knock. And while Phoebe Franklin departed before the end, Stars sauntered home.

Man City expect "incredible" £51m Premier League star to join this summer

Manchester City are headed to the Club World Cup and expect to bring in a proven Premier League operator to strengthen their ranks before the tournament commences, according to David Ornstein.

Manchester City close to landing double midfield deal

With Kevin De Bruyne moving on to a new challenge elsewhere, Manchester City have wasted no time in finding a replacement for the Belgian icon and look set to wrap up a double deal in midfield before they jet out to the United States.

Pep Guardiola is closing in on AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon star Rayan Cherki. The latter is set to arrive for a fee of £34 million after Florian Wirtz opted to move from Bayer Leverkusen to reigning champions Liverpool.

In the case of Reijnders, the final details of a transfer worth £50 million involving the Netherlands international are being ironed out before he officially links up with his new teammates at the Etihad Stadium.

Legendary defensive midfielder Rodri is also back after injury, creating a new-look engine room to take the Premier League by storm next term as the Citizens aim to reclaim the title.

Cementing what he wants his midfield to look like after a period of instability, Guardiola is also set to offer Rodri a new Manchester City contract to stave off interest from heavyweights Real Madrid – that could be worth £300,000 per week.

Pressing on in their hunt for reinforcements, City are now closing in on another addition elsewhere on the pitch to equip themselves ahead of their Club World Cup endeavours.

Man City expect to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Taking to social media platform X, reputable journalist Ornstein has reported all parties involved – from both clubs to the player’s camp – ‘expect’ a deal to be done that would see Rayan Ait-Nouri arrive at the Etihad Stadium from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There is still work to be done before a final agreement can be reached, but they appear to be in pole position to land their main left-back target relatively quickly.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' RayanAit-Nouriin action

Labelled “incredible” by Gary O’Neil, Ait-Nouri has registered five goals and seven assists in 41 appearances across all competition for Wolves this campaign.

Creating 24 chances on Premier League duty this term, the Algeria international provided a regular threat in forward areas for the Old Gold as they managed to secure their top-flight status.

Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake have both shouldered the left-back burden at Manchester City, though bringing in a natural in that position could gift Guardiola the added bonus of being able to move one of them to a central role once all paperwork is completed.

Deemed to be worth around £51 million on the market, signing Ait-Nouri appears to be a shrewd addition by the Citizens ahead of the new campaign.

Newcastle could now keep Tonali and still sign £135,000-p/w Juventus star

Newcastle United are charging towards a place in the Champions League next campaign and could now land an exciting import to strengthen once the summer window opens.

Newcastle look to firm up summer window approach

Eddie Howe will be feeling optimistic ahead of the summer window after leading his side to a crucial triumph over Chelsea last weekend that has put them on the brink of securing a return to Europe’s premier competition.

Arsenal and Everton await in their final two Premier League matches, paving the way for what could potentially be a statement few months if they can push Champions League football over the line.

The North East has become a place for talent to thrive in recent seasons and Newcastle want Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo to be their next star signing if they can manage to prize him away from West London. On the same token, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott could arrive at St James’ Park, adding a threat from the engine room alongside carrying the carrot that he would be a homegrown asset that would aid their squad registration dilemma for European competitions.

Aboubacar Maiga is deemed as one for the future by Newcastle, though it illustrates how committed they are to bringing in young talent and giving them the space to blossom into stars of the future.

Newcastle planning formal approach to bring "special" £50m star to Tyneside

The Magpies are looking to take advantage…

BySean Markus Clifford May 12, 2025

Speculation is beginning to hit fever pitch and that is only likely to increase between now and the end of the campaign. There is real excitement at what Newcastle can achieve moving forward, generated in no small part due to PIF’s financial gravitas. Now, the Magpies are reportedly pursuing an international star who may be on the move this summer.

Newcastle United still firmly in Douglas Luiz hunt

According to reports in Italy via Sport Witness, Newcastle United have started taking initial steps to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz and won’t have the caveat of Sandro Tonali heading the other way as they look poised for Champions League qualification.

The outlet claim there is a chance the Magpies could agree an advantageous deal for the Brazil international, who could join on a loan basis if circumstances align, having originally been nominated as the player heading the other way if Juve managed to secure Tonali.

Earning roughly £135,000 per week at Juventus, Luiz has made 25 appearances this campaign as they look to secure Champions League qualification. Manchester United and Nottingham Forest will provide competition for the former Aston Villa man. However, Newcastle appear to hold a strong hand in the race for his signature and see him as someone who can add bite in midfield.

Still, it remains to be seen whether they will push a deal over the line as transfer speculation begins to heat up across the board.

"Madness" – McCoist stunned at Rangers claims to sign £15k-p/w Celtic star

Rangers icon Ally McCoist has been reacting to claims of an Ibrox move for a £15,000-a-week Celtic star.

Rangers and 49ers planning for exciting summer transfer window

The Gers are in the process of being taken over by the 49ers Enterprises, who have agreed a deal in principle at Ibrox. There is confidence a deal will be completed ahead of the 2025/26 season, and the 49ers seemingly have some exciting transfer plans at Rangers.

He's signing for Rangers: Ibrox chiefs now set for talks on fee for 22 y/o

He’ll soon be on his way to Glasgow.

Reports have suggested that the 49ers could give a new Rangers boss more than £20m to spend on new players this summer, and they are aware that they can sign loanee Vaclav Cerny on a permanent transfer.

Rangers have until the end of May to sign Cerny for around £5.5m, and elsewhere, those at Ibrox are set for talks with Dundee over a fee for Lyall Cameron.

The 22-year-old has penned a pre-contract agreement with Rangers, but the two clubs are yet to agree on a compensation package, which could result in a tribunal.

McCoist reacts to Rangers claims of move for Celtic’s Greg Taylor

Recently, Celtic left-back Greg Taylor has been linked with a move to Rangers. Michael Stewart have backed the defender to move across Glasgow when his £15,000-a-week deal at Celtic expires in the summer.

However, talking to the media, relayed by Rangers Review, McCoist said it would be “madness” for the Gers to sign Taylor due to already having Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte, although he does feel Taylor is good enough to play for Rangers.

“He absolutely could get in the team and play, I don’t have any doubt about that. He’s a good player. In this day and age, it’s probably not as big a deal as it was years and years ago. But I definitely think he could play in the team.

“The only thing I would say is, you have two left-sided players there already in Yilmaz and Jefte. So, for that reason, he’s not a priority. I think Rangers have got far bigger priorities in terms of positions that they should address and will address.

“But if you are asking me if he’s good enough to play in the team? Without a doubt. I don’t see any reason why not. I was around when wee Mo did it, so after wee Mo, anything is possible! It wouldn’t be as big a deal as wee Mo, there’s nothing that would be as big a deal as wee Mo.

“You talk about Elvis, Kenny Miller, Alfie Conn… so I don’t think it’s such a big deal as years gone by. I just can’t see it happening because Rangers have got two left-sided players in that position. It would be madness for Rangers to go and strengthen in that position where they’ve got cover and they need strengthening in other positions.”

Murphy's maturity, Khawaja's redemption, Head's promise among Australia's takeaways

Australia fought back in the series from being 2-0 down with some excellent cricket. Here’s a look at what they take back home

Andrew McGlashan13-Mar-20232:22

Chappell: Australia didn’t learn a lot about their play in this series

Mature Todd Murphy provides future assuranceOver the last few years in Australian cricket there had often been the question asked: if not Nathan Lyon, then who? Now we have the answer. Todd Murphy’s first series was a remarkable performance. His Test debut in Nagpur was just his eighth first-class match and he collected seven wickets. He did not gather another such haul, but he bowled beautifully through the rest of the series. His control stood out, there was rarely a bad ball. The contest with Virat Kohli was one of most absorbing parts of the series and he claimed his scalp four times, albeit the last one was a heave into the deep. When Murphy next plays Test cricket is uncertain. Conditions in England for the World Test Championship final and Ashes are unlikely to demand two spinners and back home in Australia it is only the SCG that may, sometimes, call for a twin spin attack. Lyon has a number of years ahead of him depending on how long he wishes to keep playing, but there can now be confidence that when the transition of eras does com, Australia will be well served.Related

India take series 2-1 after tedious draw on lifeless Ahmedabad pitch

Nathan Lyon’s greatnessSpeaking of Lyon, he had an outstanding series. His haul of 22 wickets made it the most successful of his three tours to India. He was let down by the batters in Delhi, but in Indore the eight wickets in the second innings wrote another notable chapter in a Test career where the next landmark is 500 wickets. Although rewards were harder to come by on the docile surface in Ahmedabad, his versatility and craft were demonstrated by the way he trapped Shubman Gill lbw from over the wicket. At 35, he probably won’t have another India tour in him, but he has certainly left a mark on Test cricket in the country. “I haven’t played guys like Murali or Shane Warne. But among the current crop, he would probably be the No.1 overseas bowler to come and play in India,” Rohit Sharma said.Usman Khawaja’s redemptionUsman Khawaja lifted his game in Asia yet again•BCCIUsman Khawaja is certainly making up for his lost years as a Test cricketer. Having not played a single Test on his two previous tours of India, his tour-de-force since the recall early last year continued with 333 and runs at 47.57. As much as the 180 he forged in Ahmedabad was the pinnacle – and a moment, he admitted, never thought would happen – it was the innings in Delhi and Indore, particularly the latter, which really stood out. He is now a wonderfully versatile batter as shown by the runs over the last 15 months in Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and now India. Providing the leg injury he suffered is not serious, and the signs were encouraging, there is now a chance to return to England for another Ashes, the scene of where he was left out midway through the 2019 series.Travis Head’s rapid change of fortuneNot everything happened by design for Australia, but they have some blueprints for future series on the subcontinent. Leading the list of what they’ve learnt comes from Travis Head’s success at the top of the order after he replaced the concussed David Warner in Delhi. His punchy 43 in the second innings of that match had put Australia on top before they crashed in a heap on the third day. In Indore, he calmly ensured there were no jitters in knocking off 76 then in Ahmedabad looked set to cash in with a final-day century before being defeated by Axar Patel. Although it was possible to make a case based on his numbers, it felt an odd decision to leave him out in Nagpur. The middle-order beckons again in the near future, but he could well find himself back at the top in Sri Lanka in early 2025.Australia’s pace bowling struggleIt was obviously a series dominated by spin, but the lack of impact made by Australia’s pace bowlers was a disappointment. Between them, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Scott Boland and Cameron Green managed five wickets. In the first two matches Cummins at times appeared reluctant to bowl himself. Starc and Green had precious little to do in Indore but were expensive in Ahmedabad, albeit on a pitch that offered nothing. On the whole, Australia could not get the ball to reverse swing to major effect as they did in Pakistan last year where it became the defining factor of the series.Cameron Green was solid, proactive, and stylish as he scored his first Test century•BCCICameron Green can shape the futureThere was already a sense of how important Green will be to Australian cricket, but the three recent Tests he has missed due to a broken finger just reinforced the notion. There was a glimpse of the headaches it created against South Africa at the SCG and they were magnified in the first two matches of this series where the selectors had to make compromises each time. His maiden Test century in Ahmedabad was an imperious display, the highlight being his front-foot driving, after he had fought impressively on his return in Indore. Life was tougher with the ball, but perhaps a little rhythm was lacking after the layoff. The challenge now for Green is one of workload as the IPL nears followed by the WTC final and Ashes. He isn’t due to go home until August. Not losing their heads (after losing their heads)Australia’s collapse of 8 for 28 in Delhi will live in their house of horrors but from there the tour did not descend into further chaos as could easily have happened. For tragic reasons they lost their captain while David Warner (elbow) and Josh Hazlewood (Achilles) flew home injured. Ashton Agar also left the tour after confidence was lost in his bowling. However, a longer gap between the second and third Tests allowed the squad to regroup and in Indore they secured a famous victory. There was a sense of vindication within the team that their plans and tactics had been correct. But it is worth at least pondering the preparation. Andrew McDonald and Steven Smith have been insistent that the brief Sydney camp and few days in Bengaluru was the right way, but they were off the space in Nagpur. There is rightly some cynicism about the value of warm-up matches, and the schedules make it tough to squeeze them in, but perhaps there is a way countries can agree to assist each other for the betterment of the contest by committing to conditions and quality of opposition.

Heather Knight: 'The first time I was at Lord's they had giant prawns on the table'

The England women’s captain on her love for seafood, the best cook in the team, and the Vietnamese salad recipe she won’t share

As told to Alan Gardner14-Jul-2021What is your favourite meal to go to week in, week out?
I love Japanese food, so whenever we’re on tour, I’ll try and get out for some Japanese if I can. I’m not great at cooking sushi, so it has to be Deliveroo or a meal out. What is your speciality in the kitchen?
It sounds rubbish but I make a really good Vietnamese noodle salad. Loads of fresh veg, noodles, and it’s all in the dressing – the dressing is key, but I can’t reveal my ingredients, I’m afraid. Then you can add whatever protein you want.Is that a closely guarded Knight family recipe handed down through the ages?
I’m not sure my parents have ever tried Vietnamese food, to be honest! No, it’s something I’ve picked up out in Australia – they like their Vietnamese over there. I’ve adapted it slightly.Which cricket venue has the best catering?
Definitely Lord’s. You get a choice of a three-course meal, and the first time I was there as a player they had giant prawns on the table. I love seafood, so I was sold.Which of your team-mates is the best cook?
Jenny Gunn is very good. She’d be up there. What do you recommend from the Gunn menu?
She has a very good scallop dish. She loves seafood, like I do, and she’s very good at making scallops and pancetta.Anything you always take on tour?
Coffee, at the moment. Especially with bubble life, you can’t go out and get a decent coffee. So I’ve got my coffee machine and beans from a local roastery in Bristol.

It’s not quite to that level, but Georgia Elwiss is a bit of a coffee snob and wants to open her own coffee shop when she finishes. She was opening the café for a couple of hours every day in the bubble – it was more of a tuck shop, a roomful of treats as well. Not quite the Love Café but a very good one. A coffee hipster from Wolverhampton. What sort of fast food is it okay to eat as a professional sportsperson?
I’m not sure any’s okay, maybe something less fried. Definitely not chicken nuggets, which are a personal favourite. What would you eat on your cheat day?
I do quite like a good sourdough pizza. Not allowed by our nutritionist very often, but as a cheat meal, that’s fine.Favourite post-workout snack/smoothie?
It’s pretty boring – I quite like a vanilla ice cream flavoured protein powder. With proper milk. I don’t like them with water, they taste like… well, I won’t say what it tastes like. But it’s a lot nicer with milk.Anything you’ve added to or removed from your diet?
Not really, but I’m a massive fan of this chocolate oat milk. It’s not because I’m vegan or lactose intolerant, but it’s absolutely delicious. It’s vegan, so it must be okay for you.

Cal 'Big Dumper' Raleigh Signed a Toilet Seat at the Little League World Series

Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has taken the MLB by storm this year. The 28-year-old leads the league in dingers, won the 2025 Home Run Derby, and has his Seattle team firmly in the wild card race as we enter the latter part of the season.

Nicknamed "Big Dumper" for the exact reason you might think, Raleigh has become a fan favorite in baseball circles throughout the 2025 campaign—so much so, that he's now signing .

That's right, while he was in attendance at the Little League World Series ahead of his team's game against the Mets in Williamsport on Sunday, a fan thrusted a piece of their trusty throne in Raleigh's direction as he was signing autographs, and he obliged.

Here's a look at the hilarious interaction, via MLB analyst Ben Verlander on X:

A man of the people, Big Dumper is.

Estevao 2.0: Chelsea looking to sign “one of South America’s biggest jewels”

Chelsea no longer look like a frightening Premier League title challenger.

Indeed, after beating Barcelona with ease 3-0 in the Champions League at the end of November, and then battling well with league leaders Arsenal 1-1 to close out the month, Enzo Maresca’s Blues came across as credible rivals to the Gunners.

However, fast forward just a few weeks, and the West Londoners have now lost on the road at Leeds United and were made to settle for an unsatisfactory stalemate away at AFC Bournemouth.

If Antoine Semenyo hadn’t fallen victim to a VAR check early on, too, it might well have been back-to-back defeats.

There’s nowhere to hide, either, for Maresca and Co. as the fixtures come thick and fast in December. Thankfully, the January transfer window is also just around the corner, as Chelsea begin to eye up some reinforcements…

Chelsea looking to sign another South American talent

After only scoring one meagre goal against the Whites and the Cherries, Chelsea will surely look to January to fix their striker woes.

As per reports from Germany, the goal-shy Blues are keen on a deal for Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy, with current options at Maresca’s disposal in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, not “of the level” to steer the faltering Premier League side to a title, as per the harsh words of Sky Sports’ Gary Neville.

That said, the Blues could also look to bolster their side in defensive areas.

Indeed, according to Caught Offside, Chelsea could put their connections with RC Strasbourg, another club owned by BlueCo, to good use once more by going after Valentin Barco in January, with it being stated that the Blues are still closely monitoring the versatile 21-year-old, who can fill in at left-back, after holding interest in his services in the summer.

Yet, it’s his varied ability to be able to line up as a central midfield talent, away from his energetic defensive duties, that has also attracted the likes of Bayern Munich to his services.

Chelsea will hope they can come out on top in any battle that pops up, as the Stamford Bridge titans potentially win their next Estevao by landing another South American treasure who can instantly burst into life in the Premier League.

How Barco could be Chelsea's next Estevao

Like Barco, Estevao was on the radar of many an elite club before Chelsea swooped in, with both Real Madrid and Paris St Germain once eyeing up the exhilarating Brazilian.

Maresca and Co will be over the moon that they snapped up the teenage winger when they did, with the “utterly brilliant” forward – as pundit Pat Nevin labelled him after his outrageous solo effort versus Barcelona – already up to five goals and one assist from just 20 Chelsea appearances.

The expectation will be that Barco would arrive on English soil and be as impactful as instantly, considering the 21-year-old already has plenty of European experience under his belt with Strasbourg, away from also undergoing his early football education in South America.

Noted as being one of “South America’s biggest jewels” when on the books of River Plate by scout Jacek Kulig, with Estevao, of course, also heralded as “world-class” when just 17 years of age in Brazil by the aforementioned Kulig, Barco has come into his own even more in Ligue 1 with Liam Rosenior’s men, as shown in the table above.

With one goal and four assists for the season in the French top-flight, Barco looks more than ready to leap into the Premier League shortly, with the likes of Marc Cucurella no doubt scared for his starting spot at left-back, as the much-talked-about 21-year-old has created seven big chances and won 6.8 duels per game this campaign as a full-throttle force.

On the flip side, Chelsea’s number three only has only created three big chances and won 4.1 duels par match from his collection of league appearances to date, with Barco keen to shake up the Stamford Bridge first team ranks, much like Estevao did instantly on his arrival from Palmeiras.

Capable of also offering Maresca another body centrally, this does really feel as if it has all the makings of being a top-drawer acquisition from South America, much like Estevao was.

The new Garnacho: Man Utd ready £131m bid to sign the "best in the world"

Big-money transfers certainly haven’t been alien to Manchester United in recent seasons, with the hierarchy forking out a pretty penny on players in the transfer market.

The Red Devils’ transfer record currently sits at £89m, with such a fee being forked out for the signature of Paul Pogba back in the summer of 2016.

However, the club have previously come close to breaking such a record, especially after forking out a deal with £86m for Antony’s signature just a couple of years ago.

The hierarchy have seen first hand that spending big on such players doesn’t equal Premier League success, especially with the Brazilian leaving for just £19m last summer.

That hasn’t stopped the board from wanting to replicate such deals in the upcoming window, with numerous big-money deals touted ahead of the January market.

Man Utd’s hunt for new additions in January

Over the last couple of weeks, United have ramped up their efforts to land Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with the Red Devils even entering talks to land the Englishman.

However, a deal would likely be another expensive one, with Sean Dyche’s currently demanding a fee in the region of £100m for his signature in the coming months.

Ruben Amorim’s men aren’t alone in the pursuit for Anderson’s services, as rivals Manchester City have stormed into the race to land the 23-year-old in the near future.

He’s not the only big-money player currently in the Red Devils’ sights, as the hierarchy have identified Real Madrid superstar Vinícius Júnior as a potential transfer target.

According to one Spanish outlet, Amorim’s men are currently preparing a club-record €150m (£131m) bid for the Brazilian, with the forward having just over 18 months left on his deal at the Bernabeu.

They also state that the player himself could be tempted by a move to the Premier League, especially given his recent fall-out with manager Xabi Alonso.

Why United’s £131m target would be Amorim’s next Garnacho

Not all of United’s stars have joined in massive transfers, as seen with winger Alejandro Garnacho, who joined for a minimal fee from Atlético Madrid as a teenager.

The Argentine managed to force himself into the first-team reckoning a couple of years ago, with the youngster registering nine combined goals and assists in his first season as a professional.

His next two seasons with the Red Devils would follow in a similar vein, as the 21-year-old scored 21 times and registered 15 assists – one of the best returns in the first-team squad.

However, it wouldn’t be enough to maintain his future at Old Trafford, as Amorim constantly made an example of him for his attitude issues which resulted in him being frozen out of the squad.

Garnacho would depart the club during the summer, joining Premier League rivals Chelsea in a deal worth a reported £40m – a decent fee given his failures in Manchester.

Despite the sale, Amorim could get his next version of the Argentine in January, especially if the hierarchy sanction a club-record move to land Vinicius.

As previously mentioned, he’s constantly had his own disciplinary issues, with it all coming to a head in the meeting with Barcelona, as the Brazilian reacted furiously to being substituted.

Such issues could lead to his exit from the Bernabeu, potentially leading to a switch to England and finally getting a taste of the greatest division in the world.

However, despite his struggles, he’s managed to impress on the pitch in recent times, with his numbers leading to Thierry Henry labelling him the “best in the world”.

Vinicius has already registered nine combined goals and assists in LaLiga this campaign, a tally that would make him the most effective player in Amorim’s current side.

Tallies such as 8.9 progressive carries and his 38% take-one success further highlight the talent he possesses with the ball, potentially having the creative nature to provide those around him with opportunities.

His passing stats also make for excellent reading, with the Brazilian making 2.9 key passes per 90, 1.9 of which going into the final third – arguably making him the perfect all-round attacker.

£131m would be a massive statement of intent from the board, but it’s a deal that would no doubt hand the first-team yet another world-class attacking option.

However, his attitude will certainly need to be watched, especially given the recent decline of Garnacho, with Amorim needing to keep the attackers’ feet firmly on the ground.
